Jurassic World – Movie Review

Pros:

Utilizes familiar sets and tropes from the earlier films but in surprising ways. (I guarantee you’ll chuckle when the flare is lit)

Chris Pratt may not be an actor with much range, but what he does, he does well.

Overall, well paced. Lots of action, humor and not too much talking.

Cons:

Unlike the original film, the moral in this one is unclear. Which reduces the impact of the films conclusion.

The intelligence of the dinosaurs is taken too far. It seems that they are not only becoming smart, but also human. I half expected Chris Pratt’s character to give one of them a high-five at the end.

The death of a supporting character is torturous to watch. Jurassic films are violent. But it’s used to build tension and deliver jump-out-of-your-seat moments. It shouldn’t feel like a Saw film.

Conclusion:

It seemed ironic to me that the film took such a dim view of genetic engineering. The point is made early on that it is being done to reinvigorate the public’s interest in the park. But isn’t that the same thing that’s being done by the filmmakers?

They’ve created a bigger, smarter, more deadly dinosaur for this film. And why? To get us to once again hold onto our butts and open our wallets.

But maybe I’m just over thinking things.

It’s a fast moving thriller, that almost captures the original films magic. Almost.

Stay in the Know.
