PROS:
Visually Gravity was breath-taking, proof that computer generated imagery has officially come of age. I honestly didn’t realize how much of the film was built in the computer until I watched the bonus features.
Acting was spot on.
Action was visceral and intense.
CONS:
Metaphor seemed to consume plot and characters. I think metaphors deepen a story. But in some ways it seems like the plot and characters in Gravity were just there to serve the metaphors. Compare this to Children of Men (one of my all-time favorite films). There are certainly metaphors in that film but they never overwhelm the plot.
Closing Comments:
Overall, the film is fantastic and worth a re-watch for me. I give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
